Kara's EHS responsibilities include all the administrative tasks that keep an office running, researcher scheduling, various research projects, internal documentation and support of the Science Fellows program and its annual meeting.
A bachelor's degreee in English from George Mason University with a concentration in poetry and a restless spirit have led Kara down several career paths in the non-profit, education and news worlds with a short detour in the corporate world as a technical writer. She has worked as an adult basic literacy and ESL teacher, an education reporter, a magazine editor, a food co-op manager and in development, public relations, program management and pretty much any job that needs to be done at a very small non-profit. Most recently before coming to EHS, Kara started and sold a successful eco-housecleaning business in Richmond, Va.
Kara grew up on Army bases across the country and overseas, including Alaska and Germany. She calls herself a Virginian now, having lived in Virginia since graduating from college, most of that time in Richmond. Now she calls Charlottesville home and hikes with her husband and two young sons in the Shenandoah mountains as often as possible.
